Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our telehealth psychiatric practice.

Getting Started

How do I schedule my first appointment?

Click any "Schedule" button on our website to access the SimplePractice client portal. You'll create an account, complete intake forms, and choose an available appointment time that works for you.

What happens during my first visit?

Your first appointment is a comprehensive 75-90 minute evaluation. We'll discuss your mental health history, current concerns, lifestyle factors, and goals. Together, we'll create a personalized treatment plan that may include medication, therapy techniques, lab work, or lifestyle strategies.

Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?

No referral is needed. You can schedule directly with us.

What ages do you treat?

We provide care for children, adolescents, and adults. For minors, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent and may be asked to participate in appointments.

Telehealth Appointments

How does telehealth work?

Appointments take place via secure, HIPAA-compliant video through our SimplePractice platform. You'll receive a link before your appointment. All you need is a private space, a device with a camera, and a stable internet connection.

Where do I need to be located for my appointment?

You must be physically located in Minnesota or Arizona at the time of your appointment due to telehealth licensing regulations. If you're traveling outside these states, we'll need to reschedule.

Can I do my appointment from my car or a public place?

No. For privacy and safety reasons, you must be in a private, quiet space where we can have a confidential conversation. Appointments cannot be conducted while driving.

Treatment & Medications

What conditions do you treat?

We treat a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, and more. See our Conditions Treated page for details.

Do you prescribe controlled substances like Adderall or Xanax?

We can prescribe controlled substances when clinically appropriate, following strict state and federal regulations. This requires an established treatment relationship, regular follow-up appointments, and compliance with our medication protocols.

How do I get medication refills?

Request refills at least 3 business days before you run out by messaging through the client portal. Refills are processed during business hours only.

Do you provide therapy or just medication management?

We integrate psychotherapy—primarily cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)—into every session. This is included at no extra cost; you don't need to see a separate therapist for basic therapeutic support.

Payment & Insurance

Do you accept insurance?

We are a self-pay (cash-pay) practice and do not bill insurance directly. However, we can provide a Superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

What are your rates?

Initial comprehensive evaluation: $295 (75-90 minutes). Follow-up visits: $130 (20-30 minutes). See our Services page for full details.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. A card must be kept on file, and payment is due at the time of service.

Why choose a self-pay practice?

Self-pay allows for longer appointments, no insurance restrictions on treatment options, and complete privacy. Many patients also receive partial reimbursement from their insurance using our Superbills.

Other Questions

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Please provide at least 24 hours notice. The first late cancellation is waived; subsequent late cancellations or no-shows incur a $50 fee. See our Policies page for details.

What if I have an emergency?

This is not an emergency service. If you're experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency, call 911, go to the nearest emergency room, or call/text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

How do I contact you between appointments?

Use the secure messaging feature in the SimplePractice client portal for non-urgent questions. Messages are typically answered within 1-2 business days.
